Recently, SaskTel announced it has launched 5G on 30 additional cell sites serving rural communities and highway corridors across Saskatchewan – including Highway 4 south of Meadow Lake. This latest expansion is part of SaskTel’s ongoing initiative to deliver next-generation and hyper-fast wireless connectivity to residents and businesses throughout the province.
“Our government is pleased more families and businesses who live and work in rural communities now have access to the same wireless network and technologies as those in our larger urban centres,” remarked Alana Ross, MLA for Prince Albert Northcote. “The efforts being put forward by SaskTel to expand their cutting-edge wireless and fibre networks across the province will help improve the quality of life and drive economic activity in all corners of Saskatchewan.” Currently, SaskTel’s 5G network can deliver data speeds of up to 1.2 gigabits per second (Gbps), and as it matures the network will provide significantly faster speeds. Other future benefits of 5G will include massive network capacity and ultralow latency, all of which will enable new use cases for emerging wireless technologies that will be the foundation that next-generation innovations will be built upon.
“At SaskTel, we’re firmly committed to being the best at connecting our customers to the world,” noted Charlene Gavel, SaskTel president and CEO. “The continued rollout of our 5G network will strengthen the technological foundation of our province and help support the development of exciting innovations that have the power to transform nearly every aspect of modern life.” SaskTel’s rollout of 5G will revolutionize connectivity across the province, especially in rural areas. Delivering incredible data speeds, 5G will help bridge the digital divide by providing residents with the capability to connect to the world faster than ever before. 5G will also support technological advancements in remote health care, online learning, agriculture, transportation, as well as other services and industries important to the economic prosperity and overall quality of life in rural Saskatchewan.
The continued expansion of its 5G and fibre networks are a direct result of SaskTel’s commitment to invest more than $1.6 billion of capital across Saskatchewan over the next five years. In order to connect to its 5G network, SaskTel customers need to be within a 5G coverage area, have a 5G capable device that is certified for use on the SaskTel 5G network, and subscribe to a 5G compatible wireless plan.
In addition to Highway 4 south of Meadow Lake, other communities listed to receive the 5G networks include Air Ronge (west), Assiniboia, Boundary Dam, Christopher Lake (north), Christopher Lake (south), Crescent Lake, Dafoe, Delmas, Denzil, Elfros, Fiske, Gull Lake (north), Lang, Lanigan (north), Lashburn, Moosomin (east), Neuanlage, Osler, Otthon, Pilot Butte (north), Pontrilas, Springside, Viscount, Waseca, Highway 4 (south of Rosetown), Highway 21 (north of Maple Creek), Highway 45 (southwest of Outlook), Highway 55 (east of Nipawin) and Highway 55 (northeast of Prince Albert).
