KING OF KELVINGTON: Veteran driver wins at new CPCA show

Two of Meadow Lake’s chuckwagon favourites continue to find success on the Canadian Professional Chuckwagon Association (CPCA) circuit. The CPCA made a stop in Kelvington, SK Aug. 2-4, a new show on the tour this season that ultimately saw Meadow Lake’s DJ King crowned aggregate champion along with outriders Ryan Martin and Branson Harden. Meanwhile, Meadow Lake’s Logan Gorst was the dash for cash winner, assisted by outriders Logan Pethick and Wyatt Dyck.

King accumulated an aggregate time of 2:07.52 to win the show championship, followed by Gorst at 2:08.18, Brad McMann of Chauvin AB at 2:09.85, Duane Antoine of Poundmaker, SK at 2:10.08 and Danny Ringuette of Bonnyville, AB at 2:10.99. Randall Stanley of Meadow Lake was sixth overall at 2:12.24, Kris Flanagan of Meadow Lake was eighth at 2:12.96, Gorst’s second outfit was 12th with an aggregate time of 2:14.66, Calvin Fiddler of Meadow Lake was 14th at 2:16.19, Colby Stanley of Meadow Lake was 15th at 2:16.24, Jonathan Blatz of Meadow Lake was 16th at 2:16.41 and Jason McCallum of Meadow Lake was 18th at 2:21.46. Prior to the Kelvington races, King turned to social media to provide an update on his efforts this season in both the CPCA as well as the World Professional Chuck-wagon Association (WPCA) where he races as a permit driver.

“Made it back home for a few short days to regroup,” King posted July 30. “Had a solid last few shows in the World Professional Chuckwagon Association. We ended up cracking the top 16 that way. But, now off to finish the Canadian Professional Chuckwagon Association strong and hope fully give myself a chance to win a brand new whip at the Lloyd Finals. Big thanks to my crew who put in all the extra work to make this possible. And, huge thanks to Calvin Fiddler and Ryan Baptiste for doing a great job for me behind the lines. Time to represent my great sponsors who been with me from day one in the CPCA and a busy week next week with the kids at King’s Hockey School, then back to Ponoka for the World finals to try to hold a permanent spot for the 2025 season. Thanks again for everyone who has been apart of this crazy, busy season. Now, let’s go make it happen in the month of August.”

As of press time, Gorst remained number one in the CPCA driver standings with 965 points. He is followed by Ringuette with 897, King with 858, Colby Stanley with 815 while Dallas Dyck of Dewberry, AB rounds out the top five with 810 points. Next up, the CPCA will make a stop in Little Pine, SK starting tomorrow (Aug. 9) and continuing through Sunday (Aug. 11).
