In the early morning hours of March 31, Beauval RCMP responded to an assault complaint at a residence in that community. An adult male was located with serious injuries. EMS attended and the victim was transported to hospital in Ile-a-la Crosse and then on to Saskatoon.
Braydon McCallum, 20, of Beauval was initially arrested and charged with assault causing bodily harm in connection with the incident.
On April 9, however, the victim, 19-year-old Darren Buffin also of Beauval, succumbed to his injuries and died in hospital in Saskatoon.
McCallum is now charged with manslaughter. The assault charge has been withdrawn. McCallum is scheduled to appear in court in Canoe Lake today (May 11).
This investigation is ongoing with the assistance of the RCMP Major Crimes Unit.
