New boxer makes in-ring debut

The first chapter in what could become a storied boxing career has been written. This past Saturday (Dec. 13) marked the in-ring debut of Demers’ Boxing’s Kody Couillonneur, who competed in Regina at an event hosted by the Jaguar Boxing Club. Couillonneur fought Charles Ago from the MBF boxing club in the 90-kilogram co-main event.

“Ago was quite a bit larger than Kody and cut a substantial amount of weight to make the 90-kilogram limit,” remarked Quenten Demers of Demers’ Boxing, which is based in Rapid View. Couillonneur weighed in at 85 kilograms. “Ago was definitely the crowd favourite with his intimidating physique and being the hometown boy,” Demers continued. “And, his coach was not hesitant in revealing his plans for the match. They planned on taking Kody out early with Ago’s power, but Kody went in immediately, took the centre of the ring and started going to work with powerful jabs to Ago’s body.” Ago would flurry with wild overhands, most of which were blocked by Couillonneur. “Kody kept Ago against the ropes and corner with good pressure, and really did a good job in blocking Ago’s shots,” Demers said. “The second round saw much of the same as Kody used unrelenting pressure and body shots to wear Ago down. Ago landed some good shots, but was starting to tire.”

The third round saw Couillonneur start to land four-punch combos. “Kody’s pressure and combination punches allowed him to dominate the final round and silence the Regina crowd,” Demers noted. “The first two rounds were scored for Ago and the third was Kody’s. Kody and Ago put on the fight of the night, but Ago ultimately got the decision and was awarded the Best Boxer of the Evening Award. This highly competitive bout could have gone either way. Kody impressed many receiving accolades for his performance. I as a coach am extremely pleased with his performance and look forward to getting back in the gym with him to implement what he learned from this last match.”

Couillonneur is now preparing for his next match in Meadow Lake Jan. 17 at the Meadow Lake Civic Centre. Chazz Morin, Marcus Abbott, Issabella Demers and Havanna Demers are also slated to box. “We are pleased to announce we are flying in an opponent for Havanna from Waterloo, ON,” Demers said. “Brooklyn Kaufman is a 2025 Canadian bronze medalist, 2024 Ontario Golden Glove champion, 2024 U.S. Women’s national silver medalist and the 2024 Golden Glove tournament champion in Sweden.”
