He’s done it again. For the second year in a row, Meadow Lake’s Colby Stanley won the Canadian Professional Chuckwagon Association (CPCA) finals dash. The big win came this past weekend at the CPCA’s final event of the season in Onion Lake. “It was always the plan right from the beginning, but there were a lot of ups and downs this season for sure,” Stanley told Northern Pride. “It’s been a roller coaster ride of emotions in terms of how things were going. We had a lot of sore horses and I ended up having to rent a couple to get me through the last few races. But, it all paid off in the end.” Stanley crossed the finish line at 1:19.38 from barrel position number one, outrunning Danny Ringuette of Bonnyville, AB who finished second overall at 1:20.83 from barrel position number three and Brad McMann of Chauvin, AB who was third with a time of 1:21.51 from barrel position number two. “Colby Stanley’s back-to-back win is truly inspiring, showcasing his skill and determination,” remarked fellow pro chuckwagon driver Glen Myette in the wake of Stanley’s victory. “What an achievement.” Stanley went into this past weekend’s final ranked sixth overall in the CPCA driver standings.
“I need to recognize the crew, the family and everyone else who has been behind me,” Stanley said. “The hard work and dedication everyone put in this season is what it’s all about. The win is just the cherry on top. Once you get the first championship under you, you become hungry for the next one. As I said, this was always the plan but we just weren’t sure how things were going to go. But, we made her.” Looking ahead to next season, Stanley said he is excited to work with new horses. “They stepped up near the end of this season, so I am looking forward to what they can bring next year,” he said.
Meanwhile, McMann was crowned 2026 CPCA season champion after earning the most points in the CPCA driver standings. When all was said and down, McMann secured 1,116 points. Ringuette was second with 1,112 points followed by Meadow Lake’s Calvin Fiddler with 968.5, Dale Young of Sundre, AB with 962, Josh Hrynyk of Dewberry, AB with 952 and Stanley with 905.5. Loon Lake’s Roger Moore was eighth with 863.5 points while Meadow Lake’s Randall Stanley was 15th with 779 points. Fiddler also received special resignation for his efforts. “The crew made it back home safe last night as did the horses, the superstar equine athletes,” Fiddler noted via social media. “Once again (the team) improved in the CPCA standings this summer, finishing third overall in 2026. Also, for the third year in a row, there were no wagon interference penalties, as we take pride in being a safe driver and competitive at the same time. I’d like to thank my family, friends, sponsors and fans for making summer 2026 a fun and memorable time.”
Meadow Lake’s Logan Pethick also finished the 2026 CPCA season with the most outrider points and earned the title of Canadian Professional Chuckwagon Association Outrider Champion. “All season long, Logan showed the consistency, toughness and dedication it takes to compete at the highest level on the CPCA trail,” CPCA officials noted. “From the first race to the finals, he proved why he stands at the top. A well-earned championship and a season to remember.”
