July 9, 1928 – August 31, 2018

It is with sadness we announce the passing of Lilian Joan Westblom on August 31, 2018 at Meadow Lake, SK.
Joan was born at Evesham, SK on July 9, 1928 to Conrade and Ada Feenie. She grew up in Evesham and later moved with her parents to Wilkie, SK. Upon finishing school, Joan attended Normal School in Saskatoon, SK. Her first teaching position was at Briar Dale School north west of Meadow Lake, where she met William Westblom. The following year she taught at North End School near Macklin, SK. In June of 1948 she and William were married, at which time Joan gave up her teaching career to join William on the farm. They remained together on the farm until William’s passing in January of 2003, and Joan continued to live on the farm until she moved to Enriched Housing in Meadow Lake. She continued to live at the Northland Pioneers Lodge until her passing.
Joan was an avid reader and enjoyed doing petit point, needlepoint and crocheting. Joan was an amazing cook and baker, which can be confirmed by any of her family. Joan also grew a large garden and as her family left home, her garden remained the same size, she just shared it all, and as well, was happy to share any surplus with the neighbours. She also took great pride in growing endless numbers of beautiful flowers and her yard was always a bright array of blooms.
Joan is survived by her two sons and one daughter, five grandchildren and two great granddaughters. Son: Fred (Mona) and their children: Erik (Shawna), Madison and Brooklyn; Kristofer (Jenny). Daughter: Nora (Maurice) and their children: Joan (Shaun) and Richard (Chelsea). Son: Gordon (Louise) and their daughter: Alexandra (Daniel). She is also survived by five nephews and two nieces.
Joan was predeceased by her husband: William, her son: John, her parents: Conrade and Ada, and three sisters: Betty Kurulok, Isobel Hennig and Rosalind Kotenko.
Her funeral service was held on September 7, 2018 at Seniors Activity Centre, Meadow Lake, SK with Diane Gagnon officiating. Gordon Westblom the urn bearer, Erik Westblom delivered the eulogy and music was performed by Marty Bishop.
